Framework formulates your essay’s line of thinking or argument. It is possible to concentrate on effectively structuring specific paragraphs (also sentences!) along with structuring your essay all together. You have got likely been aware of the five-paragraph essay format—great! You’re currently on the path to structure that is understanding. But keep reading. Truth be told, there is certainly more to essay framework than five well-engineered and oiled paragraphs.
The Five-Paragraph Essay
Probably the most universal structure for scholastic writing in junior and twelfth grade may be the essay that is five-paragraph. It’s just what it appears like: five paragraphs composed of an introduction, three “body” paragraphs, and a summary. This format is very good in grasping the idea of essay company, for this is rational and, well, ridiculously easy. Some suggestions for the five-paragraph essay (and also this is true of other platforms):
- Ensure that your thesis is stated plainly and concisely in your introduction sentences that are(1-2!). See my post in the Thesis Statement for a refresher.
- Always check and find out if you’re able to “trace” your thesis during your whole essay. You really need to constantly be reminding your reader of the argument that is main within paragraph.
- Start thinking about including a counterargument ahead of your summary. A counterargument considers an argument that is outside would really challenge your personal thesis. The concept would be to introduce a counterargument (“Some social people would declare that…”) and then elegantly prove its inadequacy or insufficiency (“yet these arguments disregard the undeniable fact that…”).
- Ensure your summary summarizes your primary points and includes one thing new—another consideration, concern, or issue.
